A friend stopped by today for tea, cookies and my help researching her Italian ancestors . . . we found her great grandfather's manifest passenger list, he arrived at Ellis Island in 1913 and we also found his WWI draft registration in 1918 . . . she was so excited and I may have got her hooked! Was a nice peaceful day . . . .

Power on ~
San Diego had a massive power outage yesterday. Our home was hit about 3:40 p.m. I didn't think too much of it at first . . . I turned to my smart phone and started inquiring as to what was going on . . . it was then that I realized the severity and how many areas were affected. Our electricity/power returned this morning, we were some of the lucky ones. Many are still without but it is said that slowly today, most will have their power back also.
We made the most of it last night . . . joined our next door neighbors for dinner (pasta and meat sauce!) prepared on their BBQ (thank you Dave and Claudia!), fun and pleasant conversations while the kids enjoyed the swimming pool. Later, we decided to roast marshmallows, I ran home and grabbed the chocolate swirl marshmallows recently purchased!
We even enjoyed being able to hear the owl and quail near by, and, for the first time in a long time, enjoyed looking at the stars up above. It was amazing how our community came together helping those that were in need . . . it was a bit scary and strange there for a while . . . several of our friends were stuck in parking structures and massive traffic jams . . . everyone is ok and that is a blessing. The entire time, my thoughts turned to our ancestors and how they lived without electricity and the luxuries we have . . . I told myself, if they can do it . . . so can I!

Antique shop tea cup ~
As I was preparing for a visit from my dear friend and sister-in-law (we have both known each other since we were fifteen years old), her daughter and new (grandchild) baby today, I was standing on a chair rummaging around on the top shelf of one of my kitchen cabinets. I came across this sweet little tea cup that I purchased many years ago at an antique shop in, Morro Bay. How this lovely little tea cup managed to get stuck up on that top shelf and behind other dishes, escapes me . . . it's all washed and I'm ready to have tea in such a pretty teacup.

Havasu sunset ~
Our family spent last weekend with dear friends in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. The sky was gorgeous. The friends we stayed with have a roof deck, where you can sit and watch the sun rise and set...which is where I snapped many photos from. I had to work around power lines and poles...not quite as noticeable in this shot. We were very close to the lake and the weather was perfect.

Stained Glass Butterfly ~
The stained glass Butterfly, is the shade to a really neat desk lamp (full view below) that a good friend gave me over the weekend. During my mom's burial service...several Monarch Butterflies surrounded us...since then, I have been a bit partial to these lovely creatures. As we helped our friends move this weekend, they handed this to me, wanting me to have this very special butterfly in remembrance of mom ~
Thank you Dan and Theresa...
A complete view of this lovely lamp where it sits on my desk now...next to the dried roses from mom's memorial service.
