Had some remodel photo requests . . . so here are the before and after . . . I had the tile replaced in late 2009 . . . it had been over 15 years (we have lived here for 23 years) and the existing tile was falling apart, my son-in-law replaced the old white tile with this slate looking tile. My mom's husband was going to re-do the cabinets for me . . . with mom's passing and all that took place, the kitchen sat this way until recently.
I had a friend of mine re-do the cabinets. It's a bit of getting use to as far as all that white (I like warmer wood tones) but it does look better and bigger. I have a very dark kitchen and the lights need to be on to see so the white helps. Eventually, I will be putting knobs and pulls on the cabinets and drawers. My vintage cloth napkins (I found at an Estate sale), that I made into a valance (fancy name) for the kitchen window, were put back up today after being washed and ironed.
I was painting my granddaughter's room at the same time this was being done . . . this house was a mess. Still going thru "stuff" . . . purging and putting away . . . way too much stuff! Have a few more things to do to "warm" the kitchen up, but now, I can focus on my family history like I need and want to be doing . . . glad it's done.
I like wood too but the light cabinets do make the room brighter. I should consider something like this myself. Sometimes I feel like I'm in a cave here.

Thank you, Carol, trying to get use to so much white! Being that my kitchen is so dark unless I leave the lights on, the white helps a bit. I really wanted them to be stained in a darker wood stain but that was going to be very costly so I opted for painting them white . . . the easy way out! I need to "warm" it up a bit.
ReplyDeleteI love the way it came out!
ReplyDeleteLooks great!
ReplyDeleteGini - Very nice .. Lot's of work, but it looks great.

Thank you, Apple, Cheryl, Kristin and Lucille . . . it's starting grow on me now! I am so glad the hard part is behind us . . . and now, having our electricity back on, I can see the kitchen . . . San Diego having our massive power outage, was a bit strange.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I like it! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jenna!
ReplyDeleteI really, really like the new look! I'm planning to paint the cabinets in my condo white (they were once medium oak but now they are very, very dark oak :-P ). I hope mine come out as beautiful as yours!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cuz! It took a few years to get around to but it's finally done. Glad you like!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jasia! I started to do this myself to save . . . not a good idea. Very close friends of ours own their own painting company and did it for us . . . it's tricky, you can still sort of tell it's painted but I am liking the look of the wood grain showing up . . . not so stark and gives it a warmer feeling in the kitchen. They did a great job. Yours will be great too, just be sure to hire experienced painters . . . look forward to seeing yours when done.
